This course is designed to introduce the student to the SGI Defensive Pistol Craft Series. During this introductory course, firearms safety and the basic fundamentals of marksmanship are taught and constantly revisited throughout the entire Defensive Pistol Craft Series. The course will conclude with a realistic training scenario, which will incorporate all of the skills taught during this block of instruction.
Course content includes:
- Weapon Safety and Range Commands
- 7 Fundamentals of Marksmanship
- Drawing and Re-holstering Techniques
- Guard Position (High-Ready / Low-Ready)
- Sight Management
- Trigger Assist drills
- Common errors in marksmanship (corrective measures)
- Loading / Re-loading (Emergency / Tactical / Speed / Administrative)
- Operational cycle and characteristics of the semi-automatic handgun
- Immediate Action drills (trouble-shooting weapon malfunctions)
- Human target areas
- Firing techniques (Controlled Pairs, Hammers, Failure Drill, Box Drill)
- Scanning (Threat Assessment) Sidestepping
- Multiple threat engagement
- Shooting in tactical order
- Cover vs. Concealment
- Assembly / Disassembly and Maintenance of your firearm
- International Defensive Pistol Assoc. (IDPA) Course Classifier Phase-I
